A bridge, also known as a fixed partial denture, is used to replace one tooth or multiple teeth in the same area, by permanently joining to adjacent natural teeth or an adjacent dental implant. A bridge essentially “bridges” the gap left behind from one or more missing teeth.
There are different types of bridges, depending on how the bridge is anchored to the adjacent teeth, and what material the bridge is made of.
The process of getting a bridge begins by first reducing the teeth on either side of the missing tooth or teeth. This is done in order to accommodate the material that will be used to restore the size and shape of the original teeth. Once the teeth are adequately prepared, an impression is taken with our 3-D SCANNER and then sent to the lab for processing. The new bridge is usually completed within 1-2 weeks. During the waiting period, a temporary bridge is placed in the mouth so that the teeth are protected, and aesthetics are maintained. Once the final bridge is complete, the temporary bridge is removed, and the final bridge is permanently cemented into the mouth.
